Repairing a Faucet

Written by Logan

The seals in your sink’s faucet stems will wear out, eventually reaching a point where they drip no matter how hard you close the handle. Planned obsolescence, certain as the tides, nothing you can do to stop it short of not using the faucet and even then they will deteriorate on their own. When it reaches the point where you can’t ignore it anymore, the good news is it usually isn’t that hard to fix. Read the rest of this entry »

Replacing a Toilet

Written by Logan

The decision to replace a toilet can be caused by many reasons, but the only common denominator is it is dirty work. You will be touching where the pee pee and poo poo of yourself and others has been. There is a bit of slightly heavy lifting involved, and you have to be able to deal with some abstracts and improvisation. Have no doubts or qualms about any of this because if you do, you’re better off just paying a plumber to deal with it for you. That said, you can save some money and handle it yourself if you have the tools and the desire, because it really isn’t that difficult and shouldn’t take you more than an afternoon. That’s what it took me, even with plenty of interruptions. Read the rest of this entry »

Orbit Mist Gum

Written by Refined Tastes

When I saw Orbit Mist gum advertising itself as “a hydrating sensation” with strange things they called “micro-bursts™”, I was intrigued. Regular Orbit gum professes to leave your mouth with a feeling of cleaniless, so I was curious if their Mist variation did the same or if it was made solely for the purposes of keeping my mouth wet. Repairing Your Car’s Headliner

Written by Logan

So, your headliner is sagging. It’s a bad look, but rest assured, you aren’t the only one this ever happened to. Various factors contribute to how long it lasts like how well it was installed initially, parking outside vs in a garage, the elements where you live, etc; but at some point every vehicle’s headliner will separate whether it’s a Chevy or a Mercedes. Once it starts drooping it is only a matter of time until it all goes to hell, with somewhere around 10 years being the common denominator.

If you have a weekend to spare and are halfway mechanically inclined, you can save a chunk of money and do the job yourself. Trust me, it isn’t as hard as you might think. The most important tools you need are patience and common sense, but some hand tools are required. Read the rest of this entry »

Anger and Dishonesty Lead to Guilty Verdict

Written by Danyelle

This past week a  Colorado man was sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole in the state’s first sexually based hate-crime.

Allen Andrade, a 32-year-old man, received a life sentence after two hours of deliberation by a jury of his peers. The fact that this was seen as a hate-crime added 12 years to his prison term and he faces theft and other charges stemming from the murder that may add up to 24 years to his sentence. Judging a Movie by Its Book Cover

Written by Danyelle

With the movie version of the Watchmen coming out I’ve re-asked myself the new-age old question: why is it I don’t like movies based on books I’ve read? It turns out that every time I’ve watched a movie based on a book I’ve read, disappointment has been the outcome. Usually within a few days I’ll warm up to the movie and say, “it was okay,” but I don’t like the fact that so many of my favorite books have become just “adequate” movies.

I’ve been told several times that the movie has to be taken as a something else all together,”It is an entirely separate beast.”  That is true – and my point exactly. Read the rest of this entry »
